The Apurimac Reserved Zone was created on April 28, 1988 through Law (Resolución Suprema) N 0186-88-AG/DGFF. It is located in the departments of Junin and Cusco, in the provinces of Satipo and La Convencion, respectively and with a surface of 1 669 200 hectares.
This area is inhabited by different indian tribus and there are several archaeological sites around.
Main goal of the Apurimac Reserved Zone is the conservation and the protection of representative samples of the humid forest in the Central Rainforest as well as the promotion of the scientific research in the area.
