The San Matias San Carlos Protection Forest was established on March 20, 1987, through Law (R.S.) N 0101-87-AG/DGFF, it is located in the department of Pasco, province of Oxapampa, district of Huancabamba, Puerto Bermudez and Villa Rica. This forest has a surface of 145,818 hectares.

Main objectives of this Protection Forest are to preserve the lands, the forest, the agricultural lands as well as to promote the development of economic activities to benefit different natives communities such as the Campas, Ashaninkas and Amueshas.
